More than 500,000 photos from Panoramio added to Google Earth

Good news! Finally photos up to ID 2,900,000 have been added to Google Earth. This means that more than 500,000 new photos have been added to Google Earth and this is the biggest update we ever did. Now the total number of photos from Panoramio in Google Earth is 1,7 million. Next update will be around September 20th.

We also added a new feature. Now you can quickly see which photos from you have been selected for Google Earth, they are indicated with a blue compass in your personal area. Those photos are already in Google Earth or will be included in the next update.

Thanks for your suggestions for the sightseeing page, we added more than 50 suggested new amazing places like the mysterious Richat Spiral Structure in Mauritania, San Lucas cape in Mexico, the huge and unfinished Ryugyong Hotel in North Korea, the Camargue in France and The Twelve Apostles the Australian coast. Enjoy more places or send us your favorite places.

    You guys can be proud of yourselves. The waiting was worthwhile. You have produced something superb with P linking into GE. Fast server response too when I click on a photo in GE.

    And I am not saying this just because all my photos are now showing in GE - but it does give me a good buzz.

    He podido comprobar la nueva incorporación de fotos a Google Earth, y estoy encantado. Solo discrepo en una cosa con los encargados de seleccionar las fotos. Según se indica en las preguntas frecuentes de Panoramio, no se aceptan imagenes de personas, animales de compañia o interiores demasiado cerrados. Hasta aquí, de acuerdo. Pero incluyen en la misma lista de imagenes no aceptables, las de detalles. Y creo que eso es un error, porque los detalles, tanto naturales como arquitectónicos, pueden ser tan bellos, tan representativos y tan importantes como las panorámicas o los conjuntos. Existen muchas fotos de detalles en Panoramio que son una maravilla, y pueden acercar al visitante hasta un punto de vista distinto. La belleza no solo está en el horizonte, también está justo delante de nuestras narices, y muchas veces no nos damos cuenta de ello.
    Desconozco la manera de hacer llegar esta apreciación a los responsables de futuras selecciones, así que la escribo en tu blog, Eduardo, para pedirte tu apoyo en la reivindicación de la belleza del detalle.

  6. La verdad es que Panoramio crece brutalmente dia a dia. Cuando subo una foto, en el tiempo que transcurre hasta que subo la siguiente foto (escribir titulo, mapear..) me encuentro con que ya se han subido 50 fotos por parte de otros usuarios. Es increible la velocidad a la que crece la base de datos.

    Y lo mejor es el potencial de crecimiento. Seguro que ya estáis trabajando en nuevas posibilidades para los usuarios:

    - Ordenar las fotos por numero de visitas
    - Estadisticas mas detalladas de las visitas
    - Valoración de las fotos.
    - Premio para la foto número 10 millones.

    ...y un millon de cosas más.
