New update: photos up to ID 8920000 added to Google Earth
This time the update was smaller and photos up to ID 8920000 have been added to Google Earth, that means around 150,000 photos. The next update will be around June 27th and will include photos uploaded before June 10th.
I've been very interested in panoramio since I learned about the additions to google earth. So far I have 2 photos listed in earth and hope to have more once I sort them and upload them!
Out of curiosity, if I put my name/URL at the bottom of a picture, will it still have a chance to be added to google earth? Or do only clean images have a shot?
Eduardo, Any upload of photos to Google Earth/Maps must be a good thing. However, it seems that the updates are seriously slacking off.
Here is a trendline of the uploads this year: Jan 25th - Uploaded 2,000,000 shots Mar 14th - Uploaded 600,000 shots Apr 7th - uploaded 300,000 shots (cutoff 8620000) May 25th - uploaded 150,000 shots (cutoff 8920000)
A huge downward trend.
The latest update, although scheduled for May 25th, actually took place 7-10 days prior to that date. I noticed this in GE as I have photos within the range 8620000-8920000 that appeared as blue dots. At first I thought this was a subset of photos being uploaded before the main upload scheduled for May 25th. Sadly, this wasn't the case.
Here are some photo IDs of mine, including the dates I loaded them into Panoramio: 8899972 - Mar 27 8920000 - Latest Cutoff 8992708 - Mar 30
If I add a couple of weeks (say Apr 14) for reviewing, this still takes my 8992708 shot about 10 or 11 weeks before the next GE upload on June 27th (or 13 weeks from the day I loaded it!)
I find the fact that a shot I loaded in March won't appear in GE until almost July faintly ridiculous. All of my (and everyone elses) April and May shots are similarly affected.
I assume you have no control over what happens with the uploads from a Google Earth perspective. However, communicating the concerns of the Panoramio community to GE over the lack of uploads would be a good start. I hope you agree.
Disappointing to only have such a small number uploaded after such a long wait. I'm beginning to wonder if there's any point to contributing in the future.

I think that means reviewed and accepted before the 10th , not uploaded. At present review rates that probably means anything uploaded after the 1st June won't be included in the Google update on the 27th.
As Tony's figures show, there is a serious downward trend in the photo's that make it to Google Earth. Maybe this is due to technical reasons, maybe it's because it's had to get it organized in such large numbers.
Anyway, this doesn't have to be necesarilly a bad thing since nobody is happy with an overdose of blue dots. Maybe less photo's arriving in Google Earth would even be better if the quality would benefit from that.
Still, to keep Panoramio Users happy, I think it is commitment and clarity that people want. If it takes 4 weeks before a photo is reviewed, so be it. If Google Earth can only accept 100.000 new contributions each month and the review process would be more strict, then so be it.
But whatever the statement will be, if that is what goes, then that is what should go. So if it would take more time for a serious review and that could mean that far less photo's would be accepted (just to name a few examples of the consequences), then let's go for what is possible.
Bottom line, as soon as a photo is selected for Google Earth, then it should be clear when the photo will appear in Google Earth.
Panoramio is still in the lead as far as a serious photo layer in Google Earth goes. I feel that right now people stay because there is no serious alternative and not because they are part of a community of likeminded enthusiastics. Question is if Panoramio can turn that feeling around before a decent alternative surfaces that would lure many users definetely away from here.
according to the help section photo's reviewed before the 5th May would be visible in GE. apparently this is brought back to photo"s reviewed before 1st of april. that means that the photo's reviewed in may will not be placed before july 27th. in this rate photos reviewed before june 10th will be visible in september.
It is disapointing to see that, now the reviewers are rather up to date and we don't have to wait three months till the photo's are reviewed, the uploading to GE will take three months
What criteria goes into selecting Google Earth images?
I have found photos out of focus, in the wrong location, or simply badly composed where there is a better photo of the same subject.
I am happy to have 29 of my photos selected in Google Earth but the odd thing is, some of them are not much more than lousy snapshots while others (not picked for Google Earth) are much better and perhaps have a place in Google Earth.
I have two questions: - Is there any way to have photos re-evaluated for Google Earth? - Will you provide a means to update photos. I have a few photos that I have fixed up but there is currently no way to replace them in Panoramio. - Can I assist your team in any manner? (coding, beta testing, reviewing photos, etc.)
i have uploaded many pictures from my city n they were reviewed before 5th may and they r under 8920000 but i cant able to see my pictures on google earth y so plz let me know..... thanx
