About the latest improvements

Last week we released some improvements which increased the speed of the site and fixed the error messages that were far too common during the last months.

As I told you in the previous post, we are testing more frequent updates. For the moment those test are working well and now photos up to ID 14,200,000 are added to Google Earth. This means a delay of only 2-3 weeks from the upload to the layer Google Earth. Just notice that photos added in these frequent updates are only visible in low zoom levels.

Unfortunately not all are good news. In the latest update we wanted to change the color of the gray squares in Google Earth to blue, but something went wrong. We need to wait until the next update on October 24th for this change.

  1. Hey Eduardo.
Thanks so much for all the recent updates and improvements, but it seems like one thing is forgotten.
While many new photos are being uploaded faster and faster, some photos are left behind [ones that appeared unmapped (due to recent errors) or ones that need a re-review].
I think there aren't too many of them, so it might not be something hard to deal with.

Thanks, and I hope to see my photos being reviewed soon!

  2. Is the low zoom level going to be a permanent feature ?

Having to zoom so low before a square becomes visible means only the person that posted the photo is likely to see it.

  3. Carmel, there is a big backlog of thousands photos left behind (mapped later), so we just got a new person speeding up the process of reviewing them.

Galatas, the low zoom level will be only for the latest photos added in the bi-weekly updates, in the scheduled monthly update (next one on October 24th) the zoom level will be updated according to the popularity of the photo.

  4. ¡Qué bueno que cambien esos odiosos "cuadritos grises" que casi no se ven en el mapa!

  5. Eduardo,

Thank you very much for this wonderful website and for all that you are doing to improve it. I love being able to go to anywhere on the globe and find pictures of the local landscape. I also appreciate the effect it has had on improving my own landscape photography.

I do have one question related to the latest Google Earth update. None of my photos between 13,800,000 and 14,200,000 (8 photos) currently shows up Google Earth at any altitude. Did I misunderstand your blog entry or is there some other problem?

    Thank you again!

  6. Hi Eduardo,

Thanks for your reply. I tried clearing the cache (even clearing the cache file), but no luck. I also tried to look at cdbrok's photo 14055907, and I cannot view it either (with elevation of 15m).

Even when looking at some of the other users photos around 139XXXXX (e.g. 13999241), I cannot see them on GE.

Don't worry about it, it doesn't bother me that much at this stage, I will have a look after the monthly update. And report back any problems.

    Best regards,

    Fai

  7. Failure. This evening, mostly nothing works. The Forum is inaccessible. Uploading requires repeated sign-ins, on the order of dozens of attempts, mostly unsuccessful. Cookies, so what.

How am I to recommend Panaramio as a possibly professional open service when it is so often impossibly broken? Georeferenced data is my profession. It is embarrassing when I tell clients "this is the tag", "it's in Panaramio" or "Google Earth" and they respond "are you sure?" or "where?".

  8. Hello CMCarroll, I have uploaded quite a few photo's to Panoramio. Sometimes there were some problems... most of the time it worked and works alright, even quicker since a week or so ago. So I think it is a problem nòt of Panoramio's......................

  9. Eduardo, It must be tough at the top, everyone complaining,

I have uploaded 27 pages of photographs since July, boring old views but most accepted, even managed to get in on some of then discretely. I have never been logged out, I have a little trouble now and then but so what, I am not trying to make a living out of something free. I even do it with a 3 mobile internet from the depths of North Wales, now that is something.

You know the old saying ' Don't let the buggers grind you down' keep up the good work.

By the way 'Yellow dots would be nice'

  10. Trying to signup is such a hassle; Keeps coming up with "The text you wrote doesn't match the characters in the image"

I tried all combinations, with spaces as in the picture, without spaces, upper case, lower case and a combination of these.

Is this a temporary thing? or is it just me; I can't go to the forum as I need to be a member to post :(

Any help from anyone is appreciated.
    Thanks
