Sign in to Panoramio with your Google Account

As of today, it is possible to sign in to Panoramio with Google Accounts.

Why are we doing this?

Last year we worked hard to integrate Panoramio with the Google infrastructure. Now that this is done, we can focus on building new features for the Panoramio community. Some of these features require Google Accounts, and we launch the new registration process now so that users can upgrade their accounts in advance.

What does this mean for you?

Upgrading to Google Accounts is currently optional, so you can still sign in with the same email and password as before. However, we encourage you to upgrade by merging your Panoramio account into your existing Google Account (e.g. GMail) or by creating a new Google Account for your existing Panoramio account. If you already have a Google Account, this basically means one less email and password combination you have to remember, one less "Sign out" button to press when you leave before let others use your computer. Also, in a not too distant future we will have new features that are available only for the upgraded accounts!

As for the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy there is no change at all, by using Panoramio you have agreed to our Terms, which already include the Google's Terms of Service.

All new sign ups are carried out by Google Accounts.

We are very excited about what 2010 will bring Panoramio, and we hope you are too. Please let us know your thoughts by commenting on this blog post, or by discussing in the community forum.

  1. Wow, one less password. Now, that's a selling point. I have single sign-in to Google. Too bad you couldn't devote that energy to something like improving the indexing and posting interval or some geo-referenced, photo related functionality. Say, building the mapping function not to assume every photo ever taken was linked to a named urban center. Then again, as the world's largest search engine, maybe you could have gotten Tele-Atlas and your other geo feeds to correct their endless errors. What's the next revelation?

  5. Wow, my Panoramio account is seriously messed up. I signed up for Panoramio a couple years ago. I've used the above email address since then to log in, but today it says no account exists with that name. I do have a google account now and can log in with that, but my attempts to associate my existing Panoramio account have been unsuccessful. As of now Panoramio says I have an empty account. Please help!

  6. Got my account upgraded this morning and I have a question regarding e-mail notifications. After upgrading, I notice in my Panoramio settings, I no longer have the option to specifiy an e-mail address by which I will recieve Pano updates (new photos from contacts, forum notifications, etc) ... I assume my g-mail account has become the default for these e-mails? Is there a work-around here? I know I can create filters in my g-mail account to forward incoming mail to alternate addresses ... before I go that far I just wanted to make sure I hadn't overlooked anything.

    Regards,

    Kevin

  10. I was pretty quick with merging in March; however, a few days ago I decided to cancel my Google account as I didn't need it anymore, and I forgot about my Panoramio totally.
Is there still any way to de-merge it? I can still see my pictures on Panoramio and Google Earth - are they going to be removed in a while?

  14. wow.. it looks good, but on the another hand, if Google exclude my account i'll be screw, I'm telling that coz i lost on google account, I used to use that account for maybe 6 years, a lot of job there, picasa, youtube, orkut, analytic, gmai, etc. and google don't have any means of recuperation of password personalized. I even don't know what happened with my account. so it is also a risk
