Good Bye Joaquín!

A few months after Eduardo, today is my turn to say good bye. I will
get back to Spain 5 years after we started Panoramio. I part with
mixed feelings, Google is everything you've heard of and more, and
Panoramio has been the biggest project in my life. But a combination
of personal reasons and the desire to create something new were at the
end more powerful.

Instead of boring you to death with some nostalgia about two kids that
had absolutely no idea on what they were getting into, I'll instead
bore you to death with a list of people to thank: Eduardo Manchón for
joining me in this crazy race, Jose Florido for being the third kid
without a clue, John Hanke for believing that we actually knew what we
were doing, Dan Dennison for helping a half incompetent software
engineer (yours truly) navigate the mazes of Google's network
configuration, Bernhard Seefeld for all your tips and drinks in the
early days, Frederik Schaffalitzky for providing an unsuspected backup
when I "lost" 30000 photos, and of course to all these that joined our
team, and very specially to Erik, Roger, Gyuri, Ana, Gerard, Raphael
and Fernando.

But my biggest thank you goes to you all. I'm sorry for all my past
mistakes, as you were the unfortunate victims, and I'm thankful for
all your support over the years.

A while ago, in the last Hungarian meeting, an old lady came to Gyuri
and thanked him, because she won one of the Panoramio contests. She
didn't expected it and she was thrilled. You're the reason for
Panoramio. We made some people feel awesome, and I'm thankful for
that.

Panoramio Widget API - Display photos from Panoramio on your own website

We are happy to announce the launch of the new Panoramio Widget API. With this new feature that we are just releasing, it will be easier than ever to show your pictures of places to the world.
The Panoramio Widget API is a JavaScript library that provides easy-to-use graphical UI elements and search capabilities so that you can show Panoramio photos on your web site. In addition, we provide ready-made HTML templates that you can embed in a web site using iframe tags so you can take advantage of the Widget API without needing to write any JavaScript.
There are many places where Panoramio pictures are displayed such as Google Earth, Google Maps, Google Search, Place Page, etc. With Panoramio Widget API you can now display the photos from Panoramio on your blog or website. A great example of this is the following Slideshow with Panoramio photos containing the tag “sand”:

Go personal with the new Panoramio profile picture

Interaction between community members is what made Panoramio what it is today. For this reason we are happy to launch today one of our long time requested feature, the profile pictures.



To change your profile picture, you need to go to the Settings page and upload your photo, an avatar that represents you, or why not one of your best Panoramio picture. Your picture can either be uploaded from your computer or you can specify an address to one of your images on the web.

Your profile photo will be displayed next to your name in the favourite photographers list, in the favourite photos page, in the Panoramio forum, and together with you description in your user page. Comments below the photos also have a small version of your profile photo.
