To start, make sure the “Photos” layer is checked in the left layers panel and zoom down to your area of interest.
As an example below, check out the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, CA. You will see photo icons on top of the satellite images. The larger photo icons indicate larger collections or clusters of photos. Click on any photo icon to open the Photos window.
Whether you’re deciding between Paris, Beijing or Venice for a nice vacation or simply want to go on a quick virtual getaway after a long day, we hope this new way of viewing photos in Google Earth helps bring places around the world to your fingertips.
If you’d like to contribute to our efforts of building a virtual atlas of the real world and have amazing photos you’d like to share, you can do so by uploading them to Panoramio.com.
Happy viewing!
I found out today and I loved it! Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if it related to the disappearance of titles when hovering over the photo icons.
ReplyDeletePlease see hte reaction from Panoramio users: http://www.panoramio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=34931
Not very positive.
How will I know what I will be opening if there is no title when I hover over the photo icon? This can be quite disconcerting when the photo is not of the subject I am looking for in the area.
ReplyDeleteIf this change is responsible for the disappearance of the text description box that always appeared when you hovered your mouse over an individual photo icon, will you please reinstate the text box that gave the description? I think it's mad that we now have to open dozens of photos before we find something relevant to what we are looking for. Please see the discussion on the Google Help forum - http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/earth/thread?tid=787637f3f562b93e&hl=en&fid=787637f3f562b93e0004a193dc33d641.
ReplyDeleteThis change, if it is responsible for the loss of the hover over description text, as made using the photo layer a very painful and slow experience.
The colour of the new tiles is harder to see against the background. Please bring back the green tiles.
ReplyDeleteI think the title is the main problem of this system! another problem : the photo with popularity goes down if there is no photos around it. for example one of my photos (42438365) with more than 170 likes and 20 favs is shown on 6km above earth which was on 1200km! and some photos with less likes goes up! but this system lets people see more than one photo . this is nice. and I agree with Mark about the tiles.

ReplyDeleteI agree with others that the hover titles should not have been discontinued.
ReplyDeletePlease bring back the titles!
very dissapointed..not only have the very helpfull titles disapeared but it takes forever for the pictures to load i dont have the time to wait for them anymore i wish i could put it back the way it was...
ReplyDeleteis there a way to put it back the way it was?? or fix this awful mistake??

ReplyDeleteI would like to have the title available just from Google Earth, not to have to open the photo in order to know what it is. Sorry but I do agree that this change (the disappearence of the title) is the main problem. If the title is too long, you could show the first 20-30 characters of it and "..." after. But please bring the title back, it was VERY useful.

Dear All, I initially saw that I couldn't see the titles as Samee and others mentioned. But from yesterday when I checked in Google earth the titles are appearing. So I think google guys have respond to your (though I didn't mentioned I also like to have the title as well, when I hover the mouse over the photos)request. Still I experience the problem that the Tamil UNICODE characters are not rendered correctly in Google Earth which I have mentioned long time ago via http://code.google.com/p/earth-issues/issues/detail?id=679, but so far I haven't heard anything about the development to resolve this issue. I shall be thankful if someone can attend to this issue. Photo browsing experience looks good. Google guys done a good job.
ReplyDeleteOh that a great photo
ReplyDeleteAmazed at how many wrongly-located posts there are! Can I get a job helping to fix these?
ReplyDeleteMost Panos on GE do not open for me, after the initial lucky few that do. Odd thing is that "singles" are less likely to open than the multiples. Functionality of GE Panos is now worse than they were right after the big change. That's too bad, looking at photos was 1/2 the fun of cruising Google Earth. Is this being worked on???
ReplyDeleteDiane, I had some what same problem as you on Windows XP SP3. But the all the problems gone once I download the latest build of google earth via http://dl.google.com/earth/client/advanced/current/GoogleEarthWin.exe If you are on Windows this should work if not go to http://www.google.com/earth/download/ge/agree.htmland choose an advance setup and take it out "Allow Google Earth to automatically install recommended updates". I hope this fixes your problem if not please let me know.
ReplyDeleteNow we can go on vacation without even leaving the house.
