Panomeeting Porto Alegre

Some members of the Brazilian Panoramio Community met on April the 2nd in Porto Alegre to discuss about Panoramio and have some good off-line time together.

In their own words:

"A unique moment to discuss and understand all the variables that interfere for the good sense and to get the opinions of everybody, that are a valuable asset to Panoramio", was the way used by Germano Schüür to describe the meeting of the Panoramio users in the south of Brazil, that happened, April 02, in Porto Alegre.

The retired professor of the master degree in Photography by the University of Caxias do Sul, stated, in the Portuguese forum, that he was enchanted by the passion of all others participants of Panoramio for photography of landscape and nature. Above all by the patriotism and desire to show how beautiful Brazil really is. "This language (Panoramio) brought us together, gives energy to us
and the desire to take more and more photos", stated him.

This feeling of to show Brazil how it really is for the world, was pointed by the moderator of the Portuguese forum, Cleber Lima (who organized the meeting), as the motivator of his volunteer work at the
while translating Panoramio from english to Brazilian Portuguese in first instance, years ago. "My intention was to open the path to brazilians, this way they would be capable to show our country, and still, this is what gets me motivated to continue to be the moderator of Portuguese language".

Together in Porto Alegre, professional and amateurs photographers from several parts of Rio Grande do Sul, the most south state of Brazil. Were participating of this encounter, Clarisse de Freitas, invited reporter, Cristiano Dalla Rosa, from Caxias do Sul; Verner Gregory, from Lajeado; Silvia Schuma and Mauricio L. Magro, from Porto Alegre; and of course, professor Germano Schüür, which lives in Nova Petropolis.

The afternoon, which was followed with home brew beer and a traditional brazilian barbecue, was dedicated to share experiences and questions about how Panoramio really works. While talking about the meeting, Verner - which was accompained by his wife and little daughter - pointed out the importance of colaboration of each photographer. "We feel that our opinions are the fuel that makes the new information and changes get in synch with the needs of the users.

Between questions and suggestions, the participants of the meeting in Porto Alegre talked about the strong decision to repeat this initiative, so more friends from Panoramio can get to know each other personaly. "Love it, simple, love it. I have met in person with virtual friends from Panoramio, this is always good." Cristiano has stated. For Mauricio, "words, like photos, are never too much to register the moments that worth to live for." Silvia resumed: Everything was so good!

  3. The ability to conduct the orchestra, with tones tuned and untuned, under the baton of conductor Cleber patience is extraordinary. For those not in this celebration, for one reason or another, I want to register that witness besides education, nobility and sympathy of Cleber, saw in him a character concerned with the common good of us all Panoramio users. Thanks Cleber!

  6. Hi,
I may have some wrong understanding how mapping a photo works, BUT, copying GPS coordinates directly from a NIKON camera brings me to Mexico instead of Zambia, Africa where I shot the photo to be mapped. When I want to move the location cursor, there is NO feed back of the coordinates, so I have no idea where actually I am moving the cursor.
The question is whether am I missing something or this application so badly designed?
